A Cricut electric machine is used for cutting creative projects. The Cricut font is used within the Cricut Design Space; the design software used to assemble and create your Cricut projects.

Have you ever worked with a script font in the Cricut Design Space and found that the letters weren’t connected? Knowing how to add cursive letters is a basic skill when using script fonts in the Cricut Design Space. This article will teach how to adjust the spacing between letters and weld them together perfectly.

Let’s figure out how to make script lettering design look polished and professional. Whether you’re designing a wedding invitation or a wooden sign for your home, I think these simple tips and tricks will improve the design of your projects using script-style fonts. So, let’s open the Design Space app to a new Canvas.

We’ll be focusing on the Cricut cursive fonts that connect. If you’re not sure how adding cursive letters in Cricut works, we’ll point you in the right direction for that. Let’s have a look to understand how to connect cursive letters in the Cricut Design Space app:

Adjust letter spacing

The first method you can use to connect cursive letters is to adjust the letter spacing. (Ensure you select the text first so that the Text editing options appear.) You’ll find the Letter Spacing tool on the top side panel of the Cricut Design Space, next to the right side to the Font Size.

You can experiment with Letter Spacing to see what looks great with a font choice. Press on the arrow to decrease the letter spacing, which will move letters closer together. For this font, I changed the letter spacing to -0.7.

Use “Ungroup by letters”

At this stage, depending on the particular font, you can. However, if letters still look “wrong” or are disconnected after adjusting the Letter Spacing, you can adjust the position of each letter individually by using ungroup for letters.

First, choose the text. Then press on the Advanced drop-down menu, and choose Ungroup to Letters. (You’ll find the Advanced menu on the top side panel of the Cricut Design Space, on the right).

After pressing to separate the letters from the Ungroup, you’ll see each letter on its layer. You can use the mouse cursor to press and drag to adjust each letter individually.

Use Weld to Join Letters

After you place the letters exactly as you want them, use the Weld tool to join them. Don’t forget to weld letters together, or the Cricut machine will cut out each letter individually.

Select every letter you want to connect and press the Weld button in the lower-right side corner of the Cricut Design Space.

The thin black lines between each letter will disappear. This means that all the letters are combined, making a single shape.

You can double-check that the letters are welded together at the Layers panel on the right side of the screen. You should only see a single layer with the entire word in the thumbnail. Then, when you send the design to the mat, you should see the word as a shape with a single black outline on the outside of the word.
